Biography
Sandeep Sangaru a natural wanderer, embraces different roles as a designer, educator, craft-entrepreneur. He pursued Industrial design with a focus on Furniture design at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
Driven by a deep commitment to local materials and knowledge, Sandeep thrives on collaborative experimentation with communities practicing handmade crafts in India and worldwide. He owns Sangaru Design Studio, a multidisciplinary space where he translates these experiences into tangible innovations. Founding Sangaru Design Objects, Sandeep partners with craftsmen to bridge traditional methods with modern markets, infusing age-old practices with contemporary relevance.
Together with his team, Sandeep spearheads the creation of new knowledge, innovations, and markets, inspiring younger generations to adopt and promote sustainable traditional methods.
His contributions have earned him esteemed awards including the Red Dot Design Award’s “Best of the Best” in 2009, the Grand and Gold Awards from DFA Design for Asia Awards in 2011, the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award in 2012, and the AD+JSW Craft Prize for Contemporary Craftsmanship in 2020. Notably, his TrussMe collection of Bamboo products has been auctioned at Christie’s Shanghai and London.
